Not only had Miranda come to him and given herself to him and the girls without reservation, she had brought laughter and joy back into their lives and had done everything she could to help him realize his dreams.

Hector Delacruz and his daughters strolled up and stopped at his side. He tipped his hat to Miranda. “Congratulations,” he said. “I wish you both much success. My daughters and I look forward to trying some of the new dishes you are offering now.”

John smiled. “You won’t be disappointed, Hector.”

With a nod, Hector and his daughters moved on.

“Mama.” Hope looked up at Miranda. “When can we go look for ribbons?”

“John, do you mind if we leave for a few minutes?”

John shook his head. “Take all the time you need.”

Miranda and the children strolled off. A few seconds later, John heard another familiar voice and felt a hand give him a friendly slap on the back.

  John looked behind him

Pete was standing there looking at the banner. “You really did it,” he said. “Did you ever think the mail could bring you more than just a letter?”

John shook his head. “I surely didn’t,” he replied, his gaze watching Miranda and the girls disappear into the mercantile. “The mail brought me everything I ever dreamed of.”

And, he thought, so much more.
